Dr. Matacotta is an Associate Professor and Acting Vice Dean in the College of Health Sciences at Western University of Health Sciences. He is also an adjunct assistant professor of psychology at Pasadena City College. Dr. Matacotta previously served as a Behavioral Scientist Administrator/Scientific Review Officer in the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health, working in the Social and Community Influences Across the Lifespan (SCIL) branch within the Division of AIDS, Behavioral and Population Health. He served as President of the Board from 2017 to 2024.

Trained as a clinical psychologist with an emphasis on behavioral medicine and health psychology, his research focuses broadly on behavioral medicine, psychosocial aspects of health, HIV and mental health, and behavioral health services research. As Research Director at IBHRI, he oversees the fellowship and internship programs.
