The Value of Internships and Mentorship: Supporting Students in Their Academic and Professional Journey

The Integrated Behavioral Health Research Institute has a robust internship program, but we want to continue expanding it to serve as many students as possible. Our internship program aims to expose all behavioral and health sciences students to what it is like to work as a researcher or industry professional. By participating in our program, students can support a current project or create their own in cooperation with their mentor.

Mentorship is an invaluable resource for students navigating their educational and professional journeys, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds who may lack access to guidance and opportunities in their fields of interest. By serving as a mentor, you have the unique chance to foster a student’s growth, share your expertise, and make a lasting impact on their career trajectory. Beyond benefiting the mentee, mentorship is deeply rewarding for the mentor. It offers an opportunity to refine your own leadership and communication skills, gain fresh perspectives from motivated young professionals, and contribute to building a diverse and skilled future workforce. Knowing that you’ve played a pivotal role in shaping someone’s success and confidence is a deeply gratifying experience that strengthens both personal and professional fulfillment.
