Embracing artificial intelligence/machine learning to assist in the identification of mental health risk factors

Our goal is to provide the Machine Assisted Tendencies Tracker (MATT) to individuals and their healthcare providers, serving as a vital support resource and clinical decision-support tool. Mental health disorders pose a significant challenge, with one in five people in the U.S. affected in any given year. Major depression, in particular, stands out as a leading cause of disability and mortality, not only in the U.S. but globally.

The repercussions of depressive disorders extend beyond individual suffering; they can substantially increase the risk of suicide, contribute to substance use disorders, and lead to detrimental outcomes in academic and occupational performance. Accurate and timely assessment of depressive symptoms, as well as the identification of suicide risk, is imperative for effective intervention and support.

Our research and development efforts aim to assist in this critical process, providing real-time data and insights that empower both individuals and their healthcare providers to make informed decisions. By facilitating early detection and ongoing monitoring, AI-based tools like MATT can play an essential role in mitigating the impacts of depression and enhancing the overall quality of care in mental health.
